Feeling as hot as summer was the latest Doubles tournament, held at MEDRA’S Smart Shot Badminton and Sports Center on June 27, 2010, organized by Jubilee Evangelical Church.
David Ayroso and Michael Go, both avid badminton players doubled as Coordinators for the event as well as players, with a strong support of Jak Ayroso on the Score Table managing the 56 players. Tournament format followed the knock out system, each team playing 3 sets at two games each, aiming to get the highest quotient.
Organizing this tourney took all of four weeks, with the help of Jane Lin and other volunteers who logged in hours during our leveling sessions. As in any badminton tournament the most challenging task is to pair off the players and discern their playing skills. While players usually team up with whom they are comfortable with, this year’s “leveling” formed newfound partnerships between JEC members, a refreshing change. Unity and competitiveness kicked in with common goals in mind: beat the opponent and grab that sleek trophy for their mantle. This, together with a varied mixture of playing partners supported by their respective cheering fans, provided a venue for interaction amongst JEC members that perhaps never engaged each other before. This is definitely called bonding; surely the spirit of sportsmanship and goodwill was evident to all.
Games started promptly at 130 pm and we saw familiar faces from the last SERVE FOR CHRIST three years ago, (also held here at MEDRA’S SMART SHOT BADMINTON and SPORTS CENTER), and noticeable were the players’ stronger games, strategies, and despite different partners this year, they’re still making the cut.
Most games were so close to each other, allowing spectators the excitement of overtime plays, proof that the leveling made was successful and before we noticed the time, all of 84 games were played!
Out of the seven levels, four teams were organized and 84 games later, we have the proud champions and runners up as follows: |
