Smazzville Shuttlers Club held their annual team competition dubbed the “2008 Smash Splash Badminton Tournament” last Saturday, 16 August 2008 at the Battledore and Shuttlecock Badminton Hall in Quezon City.

About 48 members and guest players participated in the said event. The players were divided into four teams: Blue, Red, Yellow and Green. Each team is composed of 12 players (8 men and 4 women). Team Blue members were Nanie (Team Captain), Renan, Ogie, Seth, Sonny, Arnold, Doc, Ejay, Betcha, Liezel, Lara and Esmy. Team Red: Noel (Team Captain), Boni, Bong, Alvin, Roval, Ian, Marvin, Charlie, Lynette, Janet, Coleen and Ziela. Team Yellow: Bobet (Team Captain), Dan, Ramil, Melvin, Eric, Billy, Raul, Lizette, Mabel and Jazz. Team Green: Boy (Team Captain), Jigger, Richard, Chris, Wilson, Ed, Mike, Abie, Cindy, Keith and Grace.

The team competed in a single round robin of four men’s doubles and two women’s doubles, two games of 1-21, no reset. The team who accumulated the highest number of points became the champion.

After the round robin, Team Yellow, headed by Bobet Cu, emerged as the Champion with 666 total points. Team Green got the runner-up medals with 644 total points pushing Team Blue to the 3rd spot by a margin of only six points. Team Red placed 4th with 624 total points. Cheers to Team Yellow! Cheers to the Champions! As for the other teams, better luck next time. A sumptuous dinner followed the day’s festivities.
