The KBP (Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas) Badminton Tournament wrapped up last April 26 and 27 with some of the best shuttlers in and out of the metro.

Held at ClubSixfifty in Libis, Quezon City, the two-day event to celebrate the 35th anniversary of KBP kicked off with a “ceremonial service” on the court by no less than the PBA (Philippine Badminton Association) Vice President Gen. Edgardo Aglipay, KBP President Maloli Espinosa, KBP Board Member and Blue Dragons President Abet Sikat, Tournament Director Ronald Magnaye, Ronnie Colmenar of Phiten, Susan Tiu of Chris Sports and Fatima Salvedia of Dynamic Sports.

This was followed by an exhibition match between former RP Team players Rocky Magnaye and Ronald Magnaye against Indonesian players Adi Wijaya and Steven Najoan. The Magnaye brothers ended with a sweet 2-1 victory.

On the same day, the best combination in women’s doubles battle it out on the court in different levels. Topping the list of champions are the tandem of Cheska Bermejo and Abel Villaran beating Dahlia Santiago and Rina Batuigas in Level A. Jen Cayetano and Mylene Mangahas dominated other Level B players with Sheila Pascual and Ann Mendiola as runners-up. The combination of Marian Camana and Verna Belason showed great promise from the eliminations to the finals beating more experienced smashers Karen Tango and Namnama Cajefe in Level C.

Mara De Guzman and Elaine Malelang bagged the championship title in Level D with Mona Padrinao and Karen Guttierez as runners-up. Marikina Badminton Center players Kang Garovillas and Whendy Agapay bested Jocelyn Huang Mylene Jimenez in Level E. Kathryn Dolino and Eloisa Espinola upset Dada Garan and Beth Dilon in Level F while another pair from Marikina Badminton Center, Bernadette De Luna and Janice Torres, defeated the strong partnership of Lei Alcalde and Hermie Encanto in the lowest level.

The second day of the tournament, as predicted, were even more exciting as the men’s doubles matches get tougher as players sweat it out as early as 8:00 o’clock in the morning. Opening the round of games were players from Level E and D. Later in the afternoon, shuttlers from Level C, B, F, G and A take turns to show off their skills.
