This has happened before!
from Atty. JR Basa

About 15 years ago, I got the chance to play a really cool sport. TENNIS! My closest friends can attest that during that time, and for the next 5 or 6 years, all I talked and thought about was tennis. I was a certified tennis addict. Even Law School was no cure for this addiction. I even cut classes just to play tennis. If it rained, I had to pay ballboys extra so they can dry up the court. Whew! I was so glad when I finally got over this addiction. I thought I can finally have a normal life. Boy, I was wrong!

Last year, I started playing badminton. Just like most tennis players, I was hesitant to change sport. As they say, almost everybody can play badminton, but not tennis. Anyway, I gave it a shot and I liked it. February 2007, I had nobody to play with, so I hired a trainor, who I thought can also help me improve my game. We had several sessions, and my game somehow improved.

Then, it hit me... Badminton was becoming a passion. I started playing 2 to 3 times a week. I was actually looking forward to those badminton days as if they were the highlights of my week. Now, probably 80% of my conscious hours is devoted to badminton. (If you are my boss or my wife,
it's actually more of 10%.) Tomorrow, i will be playing in my first badminton tournament. I'm actually excited about it. Nervous, but still excited. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. But it's ok. At least, I can blame my lack of sleep if I lose tomorrow. Ha-ha!! So, there you have it. I am JR Basa, and I'm a badminton addict!

Just an update...
(written last 20 August 2007)
In case anybody is interested, I won all 3 of my matches last Saturday and our team won the Division II championship. I got my first gold medal in badminton! I even won an mp4 player in the raffle. Not bad for a newbie!
