Shuttlecocks were flying all over MEDRA's Smart Shot Badminton and Sports Court just Sundays ago, on March 25 as Jubilee Evangelical Church returns to its home court to hold its 2ndJEC Badminton Tournament. Promoting Fellowship and good health through sports, more than 80 games were played by 56 players split various levels: Men's, Ladies, Mixed doubles and Beginners level playing the single round robin system. Open to all ages, the youngest player registered was 13 years old and the more mature one? One couldn't tell because of agility and speed! What is at stake? Two trophies (one for individual event and another for team event) and the privilege of being called a "Champ"!- Well, for at least a year.
Welcoming all were Tournament Coordinators Chris Beltran and David Ayroso. Players streamed into the Courts just over 1 pm on a hot and bright Sunday afternoon, and surely not a single player paid any attention to the heat, aside from seeing manong Sorbetero poised for his Ice Cream shots, all were focused on giving their best game and all vying for those elegant trophies. As quick as the players' reflexes, games were all in by 6 pm and results, progressively tabulated.
There were crowd favorites, not so much because of blood relations between some but mostly for the intense games spectators were entertained with. Gone are the days where Badminton is merely a backyard game! Now we witness killer drops, stronger smashes, sweet cross court serves and
more! And we wonder, how do they make running forward and backward, twisting, stretching look so easy?! Whether one played aggressively or conservatively, playing badminton definitely involves brain exercises aside from the physical side of burning some hundred calories from an intense game.
Loyal donors for JEC's Official Badminton shirts and footwear distributed their wares before the games. Manong sorbetero offered his last ice cream cone for the day. Dinner was held at Smart Shot's air conditioned Function room at the 3rd floor. At the end of the evening, everyone was spent and
filled, Praise God and many thanks and kudos to JEC for holding a successful tournament and Smart Shot for their accommodation! |
