Kill for a Cause: A Benefit Badminton Tournament
from Joan Icotanim

Fun. Fulfilling. Fabulous. For the UP Association of Business Administration Majors (UP ABAM) , first time has never been like this.

UP ABAM, Belle Corporation, Megaworld Corporation, Sumo Gyoza and Caltex, has made possible Kill for a Cause: A Benefit Badminton Tournament on October 1 at Battledore and Shuttlecock Badminton Hall in Quezon City. The event, the first sports tournament organized by UP ABAM, was also supported by Sotx (the tournament's official badminton equipment), Xango, Yehey.com (official online media partner), Aktivade and Citibank.

For more than fourteen years now, the student organization has been organizing worthwhile events that serve as a venue to exercise passionate professionalism of the members, and at the same time, to reach out to less-privileged people. That is why Kill is a fundraising project of UP ABAM, and a charitable endeavor as well. Part of the proceeds was given to the chosen beneficiary, San Juan Elementary School in Cainta, Rizal ( see related article ).

The tournament had two events: Ladies' Doubles and Men's Doubles. Ladies Division had 30 pairs divided into three levels: B, C, D, while Men's Division had 48 pairs, four levels: A, B, C, D. All registered participants were given dri-fit tournament shirt, one meal, looter bag, discount card from Sotx, one bottle of Aktivade and raffle ticket as part of their registration package. The tournament started at 9 in the morning headed by the tournament director, AJ Cruz, a faculty member from the UP College of Human Kinetics, together with her officials. Raffle prizes from Citibank and Sotx were drawn before the final games started. The tournament concluded at around 7:30. Cash prizes (Php6000 for the Champion and Php3000 for the Runner Up of each level) and medals (also from Sotx) were awarded by Jill Saubon (UP ABAM President), Jayef Telarma (UP ABAM Vice President for Finance), Edmund Solilapsi (Tournament Marketing Head), and the Project Heads, Kim Cancino and Joan Icotanim (see Tournament Results).
