Clint Armamento and Mary Rose Montebon gave the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) led the Jaguars’ domination in the tertiary division of the Cesafi badminton tournament yesterday at the Metrosports badminton courts.
Armamento swept his five scheduled matches, beating University of Cebu's (UC) Jonathan Cortes, Jay-r Batulan of University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and Patrick Estoconing of the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras to top the men's A singles competition. Armamento beat Estoconing in the finals, 21-15, 21-16.
Montebon, meanwhile, routed UC's Irish Mae Ares, 30-29, 21-16, to rule the women's B singles division. Montebon won all of her two matches before winning against Ares in the final round. Her other win was against Liezl Bustamante of UV.
The Jaguars’ James Bell Rizon outsmarted UC's Joe James Taboada, 21-8, 21-15, for the men's A singles title.
Proving their dominance in the competition, USJR’s doubles smashers also emerged victorious courtesy of Jeffrey Lipaopao and John Rey Densing and the pair of Nessie Benitez and Jewel Amor Collamat for the men's and women's doubles.
The tandem of Lipaopao and Densing stunned UC's Axel Ocampo and Charles Marigomen while Collamat and Benitez won over Emily Judilla and Maris Wabinga of SWU, 22-20,21-9.
University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors prevented a USJ-R sweep in the tertiary division after Jenny Coca lost to USC’s Celia Li, 21-11, 21-19.
The secondary division matches were still being played as of press time.
